In a world of 28 million small businesses, everyone is looking for that one marketing 'silver bullet.' But what if the best ROI isn't found in a digital ad, but in a handshake? Today, we’re meeting with Scott Talley, the founder of Network In Action.
Scott saw an industry that was stuck in the past—demanding 100-plus hours a year for weekly meetings that most owners just don't have. NIA flipped the script. They moved to monthly meetings, leveraged better tech, and created a 'Try Before You Buy' program that is unheard of in franchising. You can actually live the life of a franchisee for a week, no fees, no catch, before you sign. Let’s talk about how NIA is dragging business networking into the 21st century."

After releasing Rock Star MBA, I knew an audiobook was the next essential step. As a listener myself, I know how much more an idea sticks when it’s delivered directly into your ears.My original plan was manual and messy: hours in Audacity, fighting with noise floors and peak levels. Then, a colleague pointed me toward ElevenLabs. The efficiency was staggering, a full manuscript narrated in minutes, with a voice clone that sounded eerily like my own.But "eerily" is the keyword. While the AI was fast, it missed the tiny nuances and emotional inflections that only an author can provide. Now, I’m stuck between two worlds: the polished speed of AI and the raw, demanding process of DIY recording. I’ve included three samples.
My original voice 0 to 2:00
11Labs clone - 2:05 to 2:50
11Labs - text to audio 2:55 to end.
I’d love to know which one actually connects with you.

The technical standards are no joke. Every breath, every pause, every sound must be just right. But after some trial, error, and a lot of fine-tuning, I cracked the code. And now, I wanted to give you a sneak peek. Here’s a sample of the first six minutes…Curious to hear how it turned out?

This podcast episode of Rockstar MBA, hosted by Dr. Martin J. McDermott, explores the intersection of music education and business through an interview with Brian Gross, President of Bach to Rock.
The discussion highlights how Bach to Rock is revolutionizing music instruction by moving away from traditional, isolated lessons and toward a social, team-based environment—much like a "Little League" for music.
Key Highlights
The B2R Method: A focus on making music fun by allowing students of all ages—from toddlers to seniors—to play the music they love in bands and ensembles.
Bridging the Education Gap: How the franchise addresses the decline of arts programs in public schools while leveraging the rising popularity of music-based media and technology.
Business & Technology: A look at the proprietary "Harmony Gateway" system and the inclusion of professional recording studios at every location to enhance the learning experience.
Franchise Opportunities: Brian Gross outlines what makes a successful franchisee, emphasizing that a passion for music and education is more important than being a musician.
The episode concludes with practical advice for aspiring entrepreneurs on the importance of capitalization, choosing a unique concept, and finding a location with the right community density.

Rock Star MBA shares the untapped knowledge and wisdom acquired by rock stars and artists. While the book primarily focuses on stars from the hard rock genre, it also features a diverse range of artists, including actors, painters, and musicians from other genres. After decades of pursuing their craft, Dr. McDermott noticed that many performers had become wise individuals with interesting perspectives on life, business, marketing, entrepreneurship, and leadership that could and should be shared in the classroom. Reading this book will allow you to apply their wisdom, success strategies, best practices, and unique viewpoints. This book challenges you to see the world differently— where art and business are not opposites, but complementary ways of understanding creativity, value, and human connection.

The AI hosts at Google NotebookLM take a deep dive into Dr. Martin J. McDermott's analysis on the film Deliver Me From Nowhere to extract professional insights from Bruce Springsteen’s creative process during the recording of his album Nebraska. The author highlights how innovation stems from courage and conviction rather than high-end technology, noting that Springsteen chose to release a raw, experimental project despite having more commercial hits ready.
Central to this analysis is the iceberg metaphor, which illustrates that a person's visible behaviors often mask deep-seated mental health struggles and personal history. Consequently, the text emphasizes that empathy is a vital leadership trait because it allows managers to support the invisible challenges their employees face. Ultimately, these sources argue that the intersection of artistic integrity and emotional intelligence offers profound lessons for modern business leadership.
